Re: An absolute Joke
Many moons ago Moyes said he could never work with Sullivan and Gold. With the total lack of meaningful activity in this last window, let's hope that won't turn out to be a prophecy.

Sullivan and Gold seem to have this never ending mental tactic of 'playing hardball ' time and time again, even though 9 times out of 10 it ends to their own detriment.

I'm not sure who they are trying to prove what to?

I cant find any quotes for Angus Kinnear about rejecting our offers.

Re: An absolute Joke
You're right i hate sullivan.

But i'm also hugely amused by the armchair fans who seem to think buying players in january is easy. Moyes knows his squad and i trust he knows which players he wants. He won't accept anything less.

I dont know about you but i'd much rather Moyes be picking players than Sullivan.

Which striker did we miss out on that went somewhere else??

Mate, your entirely understandable hatred of Sully is burning so bright that you are blinded to any possibility that Moyes is complicit
Whatever the form, whatever he says, nope, it’s Sully

Re: An absolute Joke
Absolutely bizarre comments from the manager. So our only striker ( who’s been looking fucked ) is away on international duty. We’re still in with a shout of top 4 / top 6 , in the FA cup with an easy looking game to come and still in Europa league contention. All to play for. He makes bids for two Leeds players that everyone could have told him they’d never accept. Then after having the last 12 months to find another striker he makes a bid for Nunez with hours to spare on the last day of the deadline? Who don’t forget is also away on international duty in South America.
Really Dave ? And Origi isn’t considered to be a player who might strengthen our squad? Or Nat Phillips? Or any of the multiple strikers that we were linked with ? I’m not having this story, it’s just unbelievable. We’ll be hearing that Moyes was guest speaker at Boris Johnson’s Downing St lockdown parties next. Don’t take the supporters for mugs Moyes , we see through the bullshit. He’s said this to deflect from the shitstorm which is about to descend on the owners when the wheels inevitably start to fall off our season over the next 1-2 months.
On the other hand if it’s all 100pc true… what an idiot he is. Our best chance of doing something for 30 odd years and he’s wrecked it.

31 days in January to sign someone. Too right he deserves the blame.

"We were never getting the Leeds lads, and I can't believe anyone would realistically think otherwise? So the question then is, why were we wasting our time with it?"

Not saying that it wasn't true but exactly where is the source of these bids and their credibility?

"And if you really wanted them, you had a month to put in the correct bids. But you didn’t, you waited to the last minute because you knew it wasn’t going to happen anyway. It’s dumb."

it is dumb.
and who is responsible for placing those bids? it's not Moyes.

"Whereas, Barcelona expect to win the league or something so they get Braithwaite in who is far below their level, just so they can still compete."

The same Barcelona who have been desperate to offload players like Braithwaite because of their ridiculous wage bill?
The same Braithwaite who has scored 5 times in 2 and a half seasons?

“ - if any of those players were way out of our league then they would have said and not bothered with them.”

It’s not about budgets, it’s that they would never come at this stage of the season unless you offered ridiculous money.

It’s a waste of time.

goose 5:28 Wed Feb 2
Re: An absolute Joke
how much time did we spend on them? by all accounts is was a phone enquiry that quickly got shut down.

not all the bids we made were for £50m, some were less but got rejected and we never got the deals done.

its the boards job to do the deals not Moyes. when they talk about players they obviously talk about budgets - if any of those players were way out of our league then they would have said and not bothered with them.

“but we didnt put bids in for Mbappe or KDB so thats a bit of a silly comment”

It’s not silly at all. If you are asking for something you know you’re not going to get you might as well bid for anyone. It’s the same thing.

And if you really wanted them, you had a month to put in the correct bids. But you didn’t, you waited to the last minute because you knew it wasn’t going to happen anyway. It’s dumb.

The only reason why we didn’t get any players in is because the board and Moyes are ok if we don’t win anything this season. They don’t expect to so why spend the money?

Whereas, Barcelona expect to win the league or something so they get Braithwaite in who is far below their level, just so they can still compete.

Are we better than Barcelona? No..

I understand the logic Moyes has. I just don’t agree that this point in time in West Ham’s evolution is the right point to get all elitist about signings.

Getting into that top 4 will be even harder next year as Newcastle come into the mix. And so what then? No way of increasing our income because we can’t get in the top 4 or attract the best players because we can’t get into the top competitions. We are taking our current success for granted. Just as Wenger did. It’s very risky to not insure yourself against key injuries in this league.

This is a really risky strategy in my opinion. I hope it works.

as for it being "easy to do", it's easy if you wanna fill your squad with rubbish that nobody else wants.

and yes we are asking for players to come in at the same level of the first eleven, he's trying to make us better not worse.

Manuel 5:09 Wed Feb 2
Re: An absolute Joke
Spurs got knocked back on Traore, Diaz and another I think, but they had a plan B and C and still got two in. Pathetic from Moyes, but many feared that anyway.

So apart from the Leeds two and Nunez, Moyes didn't rate any else to cover for Antonio or other positions? It was either those 3 or no one?

Re: An absolute Joke
Goose

That’s not it.
Would you be saying the same thing if he put bids in for Halland, Mbappe and DeBruyne?

It’s the same thing really, you’re putting in bids for players that aren’t going to happen. Just wasting time,

And then saying your owner putting in record bids for top players… isn’t that just dumb?

We are not asking for players to come in at the same level of our first 11. We are asking for players to backup or provide options to key areas in the first 11, that’s completely different and easy to do.

We have no actual left footed left back with any PL experience (masuaku really doesn’t count). We have no actual no.9 with experience. You don’t need to bid 50m to solve any of these problems.

How does he know Antonio and Bowen won’t get injured at the same time?
